How the colour ages

Plant dyes settle over the first 3–4 washes, a little excess colour may rinse out. After that the tone stays put and slowly softens into a gentle patina. Sunlight fades it fastest, so dry in the shade.

The 01 running sock is a naturally dyed organic cotton sock built for a full day on your feet: a 200-needle knit with a terry-cushioned footbed, a ribbed crew cuff that stays up, and a hand-linked toe so there is no ridge under the toes.

Designed in Amsterdam and knitted in a family-run mill in northern Portugal, it is coloured with madder root, weld and earth pigments instead of azo dyes. Breathable enough for a summer run, quick-drying enough to be a winter sock, and simple to care for — wash cool, dry flat, and it keeps its shape for years.

Where and how it's made

01

Fibre — Aegean region, Türkiye

GOTS certified organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides and rain-fed where the season allows.

02

Knitting — Northern Portugal

Knitted on circular sock machines in a family-run mill near Barcelos, with a hand-linked toe seam so there is no ridge under the foot.

03

Dye — plant and mineral baths

Dyed in low-temperature baths using madder root, weld and iron mordants instead of azo dyes. Water is filtered and re-used within the dye house.

04

Finishing

Washed, paired and packed by hand in unbleached paper — no plastic polybags.

Care instructions

  • Machine wash cold (30°C) on a gentle cycle, inside out.
  • Wash with similar colours — naturally dyed yarns settle over the first few washes.
  • Do not bleach, do not tumble dry.
  • Line dry flat, away from direct sunlight.
  • No ironing needed; the ribbing recovers as it dries.
